Did you know that Americans spend around $13,000 per renovation project? That’s a lot of money!

If you’re doing a home renovation soon, then you might be wondering about cheap (but sturdy) options you can get to keep your wallet happy.

So are you looking for inexpensive flooring? Then keep reading. We’ll show you 4 flooring options to consider!

1. Laminate

Laminate is perhaps one of the cheapest options available, so if you’re on a bare-bones budget, this is definitely for you!

What’s great about this type of flooring is it can be made to look like wood, so you don’t have to choose something that’s cheap-looking. Also, it’s very durable (it lasts for around 10 years), so if your home gets lots of foot traffic, this is a good choice too.

However, do note that it’s not good for high-moisture areas, like your kitchen or bathrooms.

2. Vinyl

Vinyl is made mostly with PVC and comes in different forms. You’ll be able to purchase tiles, planks, and even sheets of vinyl.

Not only is vinyl cheap, but it’s very low-maintenance as well. All you’ll need to do is sweep and vacuum, plus mop it occasionally.

Expect vinyl to last you up to 25 years!

3. Cork

Looking for something more eco-friendly? Then you’ll want to consider cork. This type of flooring is made from cork oak tree, and like with vinyl, it comes in the forms of tiles, planks, and sheets.

As you’d expect, cork is nice and soft, which is great if you have young kids in the house. But on the flip side, it can get damaged pretty easily.

Also, cork isn’t good for high-moisture areas either. Cork will crack and break in these areas.

4. Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile can be an inexpensive and durable flooring choice, so long as you choose the right type.

Generally, you’ll want to get a rating of at least 3 on the PEI (Porcelain Enamel Institute) scale. Anything less than that, and it’s very possible that the tiles will break.

For those of you who are handy, you can save more money by cutting and setting your own tiles. Otherwise, if you don’t feel comfortable, you can always hire a pro to do it for you.

For high-moisture areas, we’d recommend opting for porcelain tiles instead. It’s much better at repelling water. So even though you’ll have to spend more for porcelain, it’ll pay for itself when you see how long it can last.
