2021 brought record high temperatures for much of the United States. In fact, July 2021 was Earth’s hottest month in recorded history.
The best thing we can do to stay cool is to make sure our air conditioning is in good working order.
If you’re experiencing HVAC problems, we’ve got you. Keep reading to learn more about the 5 most common HVAC problems and what you can do about them.
1. AC Isn’t Working
If your HVAC unit isn’t working at all, the first thing you should do is check the batteries in the thermostat. Make sure the mode is set to “cooling” and the temperature is low enough.
Another thing you can do is try resetting the circuit breaker on the air conditioner. If all else fails, you should probably call an HVAC company.
2. AC Blowing Hot Air
Nothing is worse than your AC blowing warm or hot air when you just want to cool down. If you notice this issue, the first thing you should do is double-check the thermostat settings.
If everything looks good, change your air filter. If your air filter is in good condition, you may need to refill your refrigerant. Basic HVAC maintenance can usually solve this issue.
3. Uneven Temps
If you notice that the temperature varies in different areas of your house, your HVAC unit might not be heating and cooling your home efficiently. This may be due to an imbalance in your air system.
There are some things you can do to avoid needing HVAC replacement if you’re having these HVAC issues. Cover large windows with drapes or blinds to keep the sun out. Check the insulation in each room and add dampers to help regulate the temperature.
4. Loud Noises
Your HVAC unit shouldn’t be making a lot of noise. If you hear loud noises or the unit sounds like it’s working overtime, it might be failing.
Some of the audible signs that your unit is on its last leg can be hard to recognize if you’re not a professional. Loud noises can indicate a number of potential problems ranging from the motor, fans, compressor, or belt.
If you can hear your HVAC unit, you should contact an air conditioning repair service.
5. Leaking
It’s normal for HVAC units to leak a small amount of fluid and condensate. But if you’re seeing a lot of leakage, you likely have a problem.
Chances are good that your condensate line is clogged. You can fix this yourself if you follow the guidelines from the unit’s manufacturers.
If you’re in doubt about how to unclog the line or doing so doesn’t work, it’s time to call a pro.
