To make sure you don’t forget anything, we’ve created this home design checklist. So, keep reading for custom home design tips!

Walls, Floors, and Ceilings

Before furnishing your home, you’ll need to have the ceilings, walls, and floors complete and perfected. Here are a few of the things you may want to consider:

  • Paint and wallpaper
  • Trim and baseboards
  • False ceilings
  • Tile and flooring
  • Wall/ ceiling lighting
  • Ceiling Fans

Once you have all of these steps completed, you can start choosing the furnishings for your rooms.

Kitchen

Your kitchen may be one of the trickiest rooms to plan, as it needs to be functional and adapt to your cooking preferences. So, make a list of the features you wish to have in your kitchen. But, first, don’t forget these standard items.

  • Cabinets and pantry
  • Countertop
  • Appliances
  • Sink
  • Exhaust and fan

Of course, if you have an open floor plan, you may want to add an island with seating.

Bedrooms

Most homes have one master bedroom, along with several other bedrooms for family members or guests. Here are some of the most important things to consider when designing bedrooms.

  • Closets
  • Sufficient space for full/queen bed
  • Bedside switches for lights and fans

Of course, you’ll also need to visit a furniture wholesaler to choose beds, dressers, bookshelves, or armchairs.

Living Room

Your living room shouldn’t be too complicated to design, but you should consider how you will layout everything.

For example, where will you put the sofa? If you want to include a TV or entertainment center, be sure to leave space on the opposite wall so you can watch movies comfortably.

Bathroom

When planning your bathrooms, the biggest tasks are thinking out where you will put the toilet, shower, bathtub, and sink. Once you have this figured out, you will need to think about storage and small details, like towel racks.

Final Touches

Once you have the bulk of your rooms designed and furnished, you’ll need to add some final touches. But, don’t stress out over the small details, as they’ll be relatively easy compared to everything else. And, you can decorate your home leisurely even once you live in it, so there’s no rush.

Have Fun Designing Your Home Interior

Without a doubt, building a new construction home is a huge undertaking! But, planning your home interior doesn’t have to be stressful.

With this checklist, you won’t have to worry about forgetting something. Instead, you can enjoy the design process and create the space you always wanted!
